Welcome to my new look website. I’ve retained the colour (as purple is my favourite) and the overall sections are the same but it’s all had an overhaul to update both the content and look. There will be some new sections coming later in the year, namely some recordings – so watch this space!

2017 so far has been a busy year…let’s bring you up-to-date. At Liverpool Hope University my Visiting Lecturer position has included devising, delivering and assessing a second year undergraduate ‘Topics of Musicology’ module, titled Schubert: The Viennese. I enjoyed devising the course and it also helped my research in collating information and ensuring my own understanding of the different strands being explored. We looked at Schubert’s solo piano repertoire, Lieder and chamber music in particular, as well as discussing life in Vienna and the socio-political climate at the turn of the nineteenth century. I have also been working with the first year students on their theory, harmony and style composition work, developing their core theory and aural skills in the weekly lecture.

A highlight for performance so far this year has been working with some of the Masters students on varied repertoire in preparation for their recitals in the summer, of particular enjoyment has been working on the Piazzolla Four Seasons Piano Trio. We performed the set during the Cornerstone Festival in March.

Performance has also been of focus at the Birmingham Junior Conservatoire. The piano class I run has been progressing well and the students’ progress was marked at the end of last term (25th March) by an informal performance of Brahms’s op. 52 Libeslieder Walzer piano duets. We’re now moving onto some Schubert piano duets, a personal favourite of mine!

I can’t quite believe we’re already into April, Spring has sprung and the flowers are looking beautiful. I hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine and the long bank holiday weekends, and my new look website too. See you next time.
