Happy International Women’s Day 2021!
Here we are in March — Spring is springing into action with lighter mornings, trees in bud and beautiful spring flowers at every turn.
Semester 2 at the University of Liverpool is now in full swing, performance seminars continue online with a combination of performance coaching and discussions regarding professional orientation, reflecting on practice and performance as well as wider engagement as musicians. Over at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, I’ve got some senior student mentors providing support classes for the Grade 6 theory groups, and students continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of harmony.
In other news, and extremely exciting, I’m a Co-Producer, with my amazing colleague Dr Toni James, for the University of Liverpool’s inaugural Women in Music event on Wednesday 10th March 2021. The day is interactive and online with brilliant guest speakers: Dr Simran Singh, Dr Laura Colgate, Rie Sinclair, Vick Bain, Dr Margaret Anne Schedel, Vanessa Reed and Janine Irons MBE. The day will also include presentations, question and answer sessions, as well as performances by the University’s ensemble-in-residence Solem Quartet, the wonderful all female a cappella group Papagena, and students of the University too.
The event is all free, please register here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/women-in-music-2021-32548917613
Our vision for this event is to provide a platform for women in music to discuss current issues, showcase their work and allow networking opportunities for musicians of the future. It’s wonderful to be a part of a supportive, creative team and a part of something so exciting, with so much possibility for the future too. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like any further information.
As March progresses I’ve got another countdown to 1st April when I’ll be spending the day with my older brother and gorgeous nephews — it’ll be six months since I’ve seen them and can’t wait! I hope you’re all staying safe and looking forward to the possibilities of what’s to come as Spring continues to spring.
